Aloha!

Hawaii day two!!
Again, woke up early to try and get a jump start on heading out to snorkel. We decided to drive to a prime spot about an hour south of where we are staying - Honaunau National Historical Park. The snorkeling was incredible. Jeff, Joy, Jack and I went out for about an hour as soon as we got there, and got some really good pics with our underwater camera. I'm going to have to get them developed and scan them in for you to see later.
I've never seen reefs like that before. Well, I guess that's not saying much since I've only been snorkeling in Mexico before this trip. But, you see pictures and can't grasp the scope of being there in the middle of the ocean with a reef 10-40 feet below you, a labyrinth of corals and rocks to swim through and just tons of fish swimming all around you. It was seriously unbelievable.
We definitely needed a break after swimming that long so we got out and walked to the historical monument that was across the little bay - a Hawaiian city of refuge that was at least 500 years old. Here are some pictures of us there:

After walking around a bit and resting Jeff and i wanted to snorkel more, so we went back in for another go. It was rougher the second time, but I saw a lot more. We ventured out quite a bit further than we did the first time. I casually mentioned to Jeff that if we see a shark we should squish together to make it look like one big person rather than two little persons.
Ten minutes later a white tip reef shark at least 5-6 feet long swam about 15 feet under us. I grabbed Jeff so fast, clawing at the arm with the camera on it. He, of course, was just in awe watching the thing, thinking that I was freaking out about the shark and not hearing my muffled screams of "get the camera! get the camera!". Needless to say, we missed the picture opportunity. It moved away super fast and we didn't see it again. Found out later that it probably wouldn't have mattered since the camera only has a good 4 foot range under water. No way I was going to get that close!! But wow. It was awesome.
After snorkeling we all drove north, stopped for dinner and, as you can see... the highlight of Jeff's Hawaiian vacation - Hawaiian shaved ice. :)
Jeff and I swam tonight in the condo pool until the sun went down and now, here we are just chillin. Will probably do our devotions on the patio, read some of our books and finish Stardust tonight.
Another good day in the Pacific!!!

The shark thing pretty much confirms what I said earlier about me hyperventilating.
