One of the worst books ever written?

I defy anyone to tell me that they thought this book was good, or even entertaining for that matter.
I understand that I'm excessively critical of most fiction, but COME ON!
This book was terrible. I couldn't even choke the whole thing down, finally skimming through the last 300 pages or so to see how Mr. Goodkind would wrap up the melodramatic mess he created. I hated all the characters, finding them trivial, childish and cliche. Story plots include a "seeker of truth" and his weapon the "sword of truth" which pronounced and affirmed the main characters "righteous anger", a heroine who could kill her victims with love, torture and oh so much more. And this is the first in a trilogy! I'd rather be shot than read them all through.
I have also just discovered that they produced a TV series based upon the trilogy that aired this past year. I'm sure they'll skip all the horrifying parts of the book (ie: torture etc.), but still.
I'm sure Jeff has more to say about this mess.

Yeah this book is bad and on so many levels. Nothing is subtle. The main character is a jackass. Every time the female love interest changes her clothes the author seems to think he needs to describe how the cloths fit well and she looks good. The thing is I get it without him explaining each time. She is a pretty girl and everybody knows a pretty girl will look pretty in the dress and in a tee-shirt and jeans…..because she’s pretty. So really Terry when you want to start in yet again on the whole “the forest garb fit her emphasizing her perfect….” We’ve had enough and I don’t need you to say a thing. Also the two lame ass kids are into each other obviously enough and your constant “oh hey...they really like each other…you get that right? I mean they are soul mates” really starts to grate on the soul. And let us not forget the impatient easily angered protagonist. Terry is big on having control and to him being in control is cool. So when your protagonist insults a tribe who is nice enough to have a feast for him and “the tribal elders could tell he had taken control” we are all just annoyed and think the guy is a jerk. I mean really does anybody like a rude, arrogant, childish, bad tempered person? Those are the jerks we spend our time avoiding. Yet you give him to me as the hero? Really Terry? From what you describe if someone were to point out to the “seeker” that he is a jackass. (Ugh…seeker of truth? Are you shitting me?) He would disembowel them with his sword and his stupid chick would commiserate with him afterword because he “had to do something hard.” Well Terry I have only one response…..screw them both and the novel they rode in on.

ok I'm done.

One of my many pet peeves is authors who write like you have no brain. I really don't need you to over explain to me what you have already made obvious. The writers of 4400 do this to the gagging point. I have given up on that show. Half of the dialogue is more directed at the audience than the person they are supposedly talking to. /maybe they should just turn away from the other actors and face the camera when they start saying anything. At least that would be honest...
